Presenter: Carol Duncan
Interviewee: Gionni Di Gravio, Archivist, Newcastle University

University of Newcastle Archivist Gionni Di Gravio discusses the “Deathless Story of the Titanic”.

Broadcast Notes:

Mr James Garaty donated a copy of  The Deathless Story of the “Titanic” published only weeks after the sinking of the Titanic.

It was published by Lloyd’s Weekly News April 1912 and was issued in three editions within weeks of the sinking. Lloyd’s Weekly News was very similar to its competitor The News of the World.

The copy was purchased by James Garaty’s Step Grandmother Forence Ray Nixon nee Butcher in 1912 and has been in the family since then.

The Magazine is in poor condition given its age and the newspaper acidic stock it was printed on.

  1. Lovely to see. I have been left the same newspaper from my great aunt, I love reading it and love owning it. I had a dealer offer me £10 for it, I sent him on his way, I will never part with it, but do you know the value of it? Lynn

  2. I have this complete copy in good condition (no selotape) and my children and grandchildren have taken it to school for their projects on the Titanic. My grandfather worked on various famous ships – but not the Titanic!
