Newcastle University Archivist Gionni Di Gravio discusses the new book from the University of Newcastle Library entitled Found Treasures.
The University of Newcastle Cultural Collections houses a rich diversity of books, manuscripts, photographs, artefacts, maps, plans and images. In Found Treasures we have highlighted some of the significant gems of our collection.
This rich collection of books, manuscripts, photographs, artefacts, maps, plans and images is housed by the University of Newcastle Library. These works tell stories ranging from the antiquities of Rome and the light of the Renaissance, through to our own indigenous and colonial histories. They cover books and manuscripts of aesthetic, historic and intellectual significance, as well as Newcastle and Hunter archives of the University, business, industry, hospitals, school, church and family.
In Found Treasures we have highlighted some of the significant gems of our collections. That significance may be due to historic, aesthetic or cultural factors, or it may simply be in the eye of the beholder. All the items in the collections play a part in telling stories about who we are and what has shaped us.
Some of the stories were featured in regular radio broadcasts on ABC 1233.
