Celebration of National Apology

Tomorrow, Wednesday 13 February 2008, will be an important day for all Australians, Indigenous and non-Indigenous.

The University of Newcastle supports this day of recognition of Stolen Generations and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.

We invite all members of the University of Newcastle community to be part of the National Apology that will be delivered by the Prime Minister shortly after 9 am.

In celebration of this important and long-awaited event, please join your friends and colleagues to watch the Apology and to share in a morning tea between 9 and 10 am. The three locations are:

Callaghan Campus: Bar on the Hill and Godfrey Tanner Bar, Shortland Union

Ourimbah Campus: Board Room, Administration Building

In addition:

On Wednesday 13th February 2008 Newcastle City Council, as a show of support to Indigenous Citizens of Newcastle, will be hosting a live public broadcast of the Australian Government’s apology to Indigenous Stolen Generations. This broadcast will be held in the Concert Hall of City Hall from 8:30 am.

All members of the Newcastle community are invited to come along and partake in this immense occasion. If you are available please come along on Wednesday morning.

Also, please note that Cr Gaudry of Newcastle City Council will put to Council a Notice of Motion on the Apology. Please if you can come along to City Hall Chambers tonight at 6.30pm, please do so and show your support.
